Nocturnal Embers ~ Crimson Melodies
"Lured" Tropes: Unrequited love, Nerdy Heroine

Rupert Shaw. The name may strike you as remarkable, or not. It might conjure expectations of the person who answers to it, in which case you’ll no doubt be surprised.
Or, perhaps you’ve heard of him.
If you have, you are most likely a vampire. Humans who know the name have limited lifespans or are in his employ (in which case you have not heard of Rupert Shaw, the vampire who rules over San Francisco – not if you want to keep your potential lifespan intact).
But if you’ve heard of Nocturnal Embers, you certainly know him. It’s even possible that you’ve seen him on the occasions you visited the establishment. Of course, you’d also know that discussing what goes on at Nocturnal Embers beyond its walls is a quick invitation to possessing gaps in your memory – if you’re one of the lucky ones.
What it is can’t fully be captured in words, anyway. It needs to be experienced.
So if you’re ever in San Francisco, in the neighborhood of the Transamerica Pyramid, keep your eyes open. Down one of the narrow streets, among the shops and nightclubs, its entrance unassuming, is Nocturnal Embers.
And on the other side of the door?
…
What were we talking about?

Praise for Noctural Embers:
Like any anthology, there will undoubtedly be some stories you prefer to others. However, the overall quality of the writing and storytelling is high. Themes range from action-packed romance, as in Cate Peace's page-turner "Lured," to revenge, as in Zack Rewey's frighteningly good "Hunting Evangeline."
Keep in mind this anthology is in the horror genre, as well as fantasy. So, if you're going to get squeamish about blood, death, or lust, this probably isn't the book for you. If you can handle those things, get ready for an exciting read. Dive in, be afraid, have fun!

Vampire Kiernan Shaw has never forgotten the night twenty years ago when he’d been forced to stand by while another vampire killed a six-year-old girl’s parents in front of her. He’s spent the better part of the last two decades watching over her, protecting her and hoping for an opportunity to make amends one day.
Ever since surviving the vampire attack that killed her parents, Moira Curran has dealt with the resulting nightmares and abandonment issues the only way she could—by throwing herself into her biochemistry career, preferring a life of a hermit in her lab to facing the reality of her lonely life.
Madame Eve brings them back together for one fateful night. An immediate bond of sizzling chemistry and respect forms, but can it heal her fears and his guilt?

Praise for TTNY:
You'll be hooked immediately by the friendship between the protagonist Moira and her best friend Tandy. Then, as the protective and heartfelt Kiernan charms Moira, he'll charm you too! The short length makes it a breezy, fun read, perfect for your afternoon commute or a day at the beach... that is if you manage not to get too hot and bothered

There are three things that I've come to expect from a 1Night Stand novella: a compelling storyline, hot sex and super likable characters that make me wish the novella was just a chapter or two longer. This Time Next Year didn't disappoint me.
I think what I liked most about this story was that it wasn't your traditional vampire story. Kiernan was vulnerable, and really felt bad for what happened to Moira's family all those years ago and wanted to make up to her. Madam Eve works her magic and brings Moira into his life again..but while Moira is vulnerable, I loved that she was also independent and made decisions on her own terms. This was just a sweet romance with a lot of passion! I want to say more, but it was just 38 pages and I don't want to spoil anything. This was one of the best debut books I've read in a long time

A romance author who needs to love….
Best-selling romance author Claire Greene confines her passions to the pages of her books, afraid of being hurt again. When she receives a 1Night Stand date “to give her something to talk about in interviews,” can she let herself be swept away?
A rock star who needs to let go….
The past has a chokehold on former rock star Ty Krause. Instead of killer tunes, he kills time writing passable songs for a British boy band and spends his nights wishing he had the balls to say good-bye. In a last ditch effort to move on, he signs up for 1Night Stand, thinking that a night of no-strings-attached sex will help him break the leash of his past.
From the moment Claire and Ty meet, sparks fly—but can they overcome their pasts or will their potential love story end on a sour note?

Praise for Complete Me:
Ty definitely had the alpha-male sexiness going on here, and as he and Claire got to know each other on their one night, she brought out the less cynical side to him. He was disappointed in himself for not doing more with his career, and for allowing himself to get pulled back in by his ex every time she beckoned. He needed someone like Claire to make him snap out of it, and she did that and more as they took full advantage of their evening! They both felt drawn to each other from the start, but Claire also liked the confident side of him that came out, and Ty felt himself finally seeing more in his life with Claire next to him.
I like the concept of this 1NightStand series, you’ve got to love the simplicity of taking out all the complications of finding a guy to have a one night stand with! But I was worried that I wouldn’t connect with these characters over such a short story, and that did kind of happen here. I don’t think it was entirely the insta-lust factor, more just that Ty’s lack of motivation to move on in life that took away some of his appeal. I get being hung up on an ex, but I wish Ty had more of a backbone when it came to her. Thankfully Claire is confident enough to not put up with an indecisive man, and it added a bit of drama to this sexy short.
Overall, it was a steamy read with a decent amount of character development for so few pages, and a sweet ending that will leave readers happy!
